All dogs look cute when they are puppies but they don't stay that way for very long. Remember! Dogs are killed every year because for whatever the reason, their owners find they are unable, look after them anymore. |
So let's look at what you need to think about before getting a dog. |
1. Do you really want a dog, dog ownership is a big responsibility. |
3. Dogs cost money, can you afford to keep one. Here's a list of some of the things you will have to pay for: Food: (your dog must be fed every day) Dog Registration: (your dog must be registered with your local council) Vaccinations: (Your dog must have yearly vaccinations) Worming & Flea treatments: (Your dog must be regularly treated for worms & fleas) |
2. There are many breeds of dogs, will the breed of dog you pick, suit your families lifestyle. |
4. As a dog owner it is your responsiblity to provide: Food Dogs need fresh food & water every day Companionship Dogs like company the same as you do, You must spend time with them every day Exercise Dogs need to be exercised daily, some breeds require more exercise than others. When out walking your dog should always be leashed Housing & Health Care Your dog should be kept in a fully fenced section, live in a kennel or inside your home, otherwise your dog may roam around your neighbourhood, causing trouble or it may get hurt. If your dog gets sick or needs to be vaccinated/ wormed, you will have to take your dog to the vet. |
